SUMMER 2026 Yarn Art Project #1

Kick off the summer with the initial project. I created this pattern several years ago to help parents quickly spot their children. Originally designed for a little boy, it can also be adapted for little girls. To personalize these vests, consider adding a unique patch (without the child's name). If there are multiple children, use a uniform main color for all.

R2: In the second chain stitch, work 1 sc. Next, crochet 1 sc in each of the 1st to 9th chain stitches. In the 10th chain (1st corner), work (1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc). Crochet 1 sc in each stitch of the following 13 chains. At the next corner, repeat (). For the next 20 chains, crochet 1 sc in each stitch, repeat the corner pattern () again, crochet 1 sc in each of the next 13 chains, repeat the corner pattern () once more, and finally, crochet 1 sc in the remaining chain stitches, ch 1. The crochet pattern should match the diagram above.

Rows 3-7:   Turn, crochet 1 dc in the first stitch, ch 1, skip 1 stitch. This establishes the crochet mesh pattern. Continue this until you reach the corner. I crocheted 1 dc, ch 1 in the first sc stitch of the corner pattern from the previous row, then worked in the corner into the 2 chs, maintaining this pattern for all corners (2 dcs, 2 chs, 2 dcs) for each row.  Then resume crocheting the mesh pattern: 1 dc, 1 ch, skip 1 stitch. Before each corner, 1 dc, ch 1, skip 1 stitch

 Fold  in half the vest.

It should measure 5 ½ inches along side edges for arm holes.

R 8: Switch to the second crochet hook, size 6.0mm. We will now join under the arms to create the front and back. In the last stitch of row 7, chain 1 and turn. In the 1st stitch, work the mesh pattern: 1 dc, ch 1, skip 1st until you reach the corner. At the corner, gather the 2 chains at the front
